Day 12 of our Europe Trip

Monday 21st March

We started the day in a village called Balmaseda with coffee and palmier’s also known as Palmeras in Spain; a heart shaped puff pastry and in our case covered in chocolate! After filling up on pastry and feeling a slight sugar rush, we headed for Santander.

Santander is the capital city of the Cantabira region, we parked free of charge on the Avenida de la Reina Victoria, a Main Street not too far from the centre.

We walked along the Playa de la Magdalena, towards the Palacio de la Magdalena, once the royal summer residence on the La Magdalena Peninsula. It’s a really stunning place, from the town, to the beaches, to the rocky cliffs and far reaching views. We stopped for a snack at the Cafeteria Restaurant Caballerizas Reales and whilst they had stopped serving food as it was between lunch and dinner time, we order Spanish omelette, something we hadn’t tried before - the ham and cheese option was definitely the firm favourite!

Afterwards, as it was getting dark, we headed for the Virgen Del Mar campsite, around a 15 - 20 minute drive from where we we’re parked, we arrived and went straight to sleep, not knowing the spectacular view that would be waiting for us when we woke up.
