Day 1 of our Europe Trip

Thursday 10th March

Today is the day. We finally, after many days of packing, re-packing and more packing, we are ready!

With travelling in such a compact space, we had to bring only the essentials and all I can say is, it’s taken me more than one attempt to get this right. As we drive away from our home, we wonder what adventures lie ahead, oh and also if we’ve left anything important behind!

We set off to catch the Eurostar and had a good 5/6 hour drive ahead. We split the drive, as Arthur will be driving the late night arrival in Calais, as I will likely be sleeping by this point. We arrived at the tunnel at around 9pm after a couple of stops along the way. We got there early, and had the choice to be scheduled for an earlier crossing. A good tip is that you have to arrive at least 1hr early in order to check in so they can check passports etc. We made our way onto the tunnel and after a few minutes we lost our view of the outside world and headed into the tunnel. Around 35 minutes later (plus an hour in time difference) we popped up in Calais.

We only had a loose plan of where we were headed on our road-trip, so we stopped for the night just under an hour outside Calais in Hardelot-Plage and woke up to an amazing breakfast of pastries and coffee!
