Day 17 of our Europe Trip
Saturday 26th March
We headed off early and made it Santiago de Compostela. Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Spains Galicia region. The city has its origin in the shrine of Saint James the Great, with now the Cathedral as the destination of the way of St. James, a Catholic pilgrimage route since the 9th century. Its a really unique and interesting place, with lots of history. We walked around the Old Town and took in the atmosphere, as it was Saturday it was very lively with bars and tapas restaurants, and even a live rock band playing in one of the Old Town streets. We stopped to sample some of the tapas at Restaurant Carretas, just behind the cathedral and I think it was my favourite to date, definitely would recommend!
We stopped at a campsite around a 15 minute drive to Camping As Cancelas, which is really popular and a great site.
A great tip - It was this day that we ran out of gas for our cooking stove and so we headed to Decathlon nearby to re-stock. We use Camping Gaz as not all gas brands are available in Europe and you can find stores that stock it here https://www.campingaz.com/gasfinder/
