Day 3 of our Europe Trip
Saturday 12th March
After a peaceful night sleep (it really was super quiet) we found we were next to an animal park with lots of boar rolling around in the mud and munching away on their breakfast. After a little walk, we used the picnic benches provided and made chocolate and banana crepes on our gas cooker before heading off to explore.
After a quick look at the map and another cuppa, we’d decided to drive to La Rochelle about a 5hr drive from where we were. About 2.5hrs into our journey we needed a quick stop and stumbled upon Le Mans. Le Mans we later found out is famed for its 24hr race track which is really interesting, although we didn’t know this initially. It also has the Sarthe river running through and the most stunning narrow gothic streets and cathedrals. It really was so charming!
That evening, we stayed in an aire called Aigrefuille D’Aunis which had a little canal and restaurant right next door…not that we realised as we arrived in the dark and so we made up some Tagliatelle and then headed for bed.
A great tip - there are many Aire’s in France, which are places set up for camper vans and motorhomes to stay. All so fat have been free in the winter season, although some apply a charge in the high season. Where we have stayed, they have no services except plenty of bins, although some advertised do have water and electricity.
