Day 7 of our Europe Trip
Wednesday 16th March
We found it hard to leave the vineyards that had become our home in our TinTent over the past couple of days. Once we left, we headed for Arcachon and the Dune of Pilat. Arcachon is well-known for its oyster harvesting and is a seaside town in the southwest. With its golden sand beaches and Le Quarter de la Ville Hiver; a group of late 19th and early 20th century villas, with a variety of architectural styles. It was a great place for stroll, even in the rain. I will say, we are a little out of season so some of the shops and restaurants were closed but I can imagine it will be a bustling place in the summer months. As for the Dune of Pilat, it was breathtaking, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. I’ll add some photos below, as they really speak for themselves.
It was this day, that we felt a bit tired from all the driving, travelling and all the fun that comes with camping in your car - basic things like washing and cooking whilst all do-able do take that extra time. We wanted to check into a campsite, have a hot shower, maybe some campsite restaurant food for convenience and head to bed. We though this should be easy right? t really wasn’t. As I mentioned, we are here off season and with this area being a beach resort area, most we’re shut - which is not an issue we’d had so far on our trip.
We ended up 30mins south, in a place called Sanguinet, right near the beach. It was a free aire, which is mostly what we have been using so far on our journey. We steamed some dim sum which was warming and needed before cosying in for the night. It didn’t go exactly as planned but we still managed to find a little gem for the night.
