Day 9 of our Europe Trip
Friday 18th March
Today, we woke up bright and early(ish), it was around 8 maybe 8.30. We had a croissant and pain au chocolat breakfast, cleaned up the car and set off. We headed to Biarritz to see the striking coastline and sharp rocky cliff faces. Although we didn’t quite get the summer weather - we couldn’t quite see the difference between sea and sky, we can’t blame it given we’re only in March.
A great tip, we found free parking just on the outskirts and walked a mile or so towards the centre. We were greeted by large waves crashing against the jagged rocks, seagulls swirling above, and the smell of the fresh salty air. We walked all the way along the beach and promenade, through the harbour and up onto the cliff tops and looked down at the choppy water below.
We had walked up quite the appetite and had planned a proper lunch but ended up having an ice cream lunch - a proper lunch right? I can recommend when in France or Biarritz specifically, the pistachio ice cream. Arthur order this flavour and I really wish I had, it was delicious and creamy, sweet but not too sweet.
As we strolled back through the town, the gateway to the Basque Country, we saw all the fascinating gothic architecture and were amazing by how grand and elegant they all were.
After a busy day, we headed back to the car to do some work, that was until all our batteries ran out of charge. Oh the joys of wild camping. On the one hand, you wake up to the best views, but on the other no electric to charge anything. So we checked into a campsite for the night and tomorrow we’ll wake up in Spain!
